Chat and Composer
An incognito chat is not saved to history, memory, or projects. Use it while signed in when you want to ask something without it being written to your history and memory.

Turning it on and off
- Click the Incognito mode button at the top right of the new chat screen.
- The screen reads You're in incognito mode; write your message as usual.
- To leave, use the Turn off incognito mode button at the top right.
What's different in an incognito chat?
- The chat is not written to history and does not appear in the history in the sidebar.
- It is not written to memory (see How does memory work?).
- It is not saved to projects; incognito chat is not available in project mode.
- Desktop No file checkpoints are kept in an incognito chat, so file changes made in it cannot be undone (see Checkpoints (undo)).
- To generate a response, your messages are still sent to the model provider; providers' retention terms are explained in the Privacy Policy.
How it differs from guest mode
Incognito chat is used while you're signed in; guest mode is chatting on the web without an account (see Guest mode). In neither is the chat saved.
